Supervisors approve steam trap bid, five-year contract for audio and video equipment for Sheriff’s Department

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, August 11 to address a full agenda of matters including the discussion and consideration of steam trap bids for the County Courthouse heating system repair, the discussion and consideration of the reinstatement of a pasture lease contract, and the discussion and consideration of signing opioid litigation settlement agreements.
Prior to the 9 a.m. regular session, the Supervisors held a work session with discussion taking place relating to body-worn cameras, in-vehicle cameras and computers and related subscriptions for this equipment for the County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, discussion took place relating to steam trap bids received for the County Courthouse heating system repairs and options available.
The regular session was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Dan Byrnes with Supervisors Dennis Keatley and Tom Clark present. During Public Comment, Byrnes made note of Lansing Fish Days which took place August 8-10. Byrnes further noted the event was successful through the work of volunteers and others involved. Clark echoed similar comments about Lansing Fish Days with the Supervisors also discussing rainfall and weather conditions over the weekend which did not affect scheduled Fish Days events.
With time remaining for Public Comment, County Auditor Denise Beyer discussed recent communications with Lansing City Clerk Teresa Severson relating to an ordinance specifying that Lansing is a primary city, like Waukon. Beyer noted that the filing period for mayor and city council candidates begins Monday, August 11 and runs through Thursday, August 28 for these elected offices in Waukon and Lansing. She added that an election primary would be triggered if there are more than twice the number of candidates to file in comparison to the number of vacancies or seats available. She noted that the filing period for Waukon and Lansing will be communicated through a variety of channels with the Wednesday, August 20 edition of The Standard anticipated to have an advertisement providing specifics on this matter.
The meeting moved into the consideration of Homestead and Military allowances and disallowances. Following review, the Supervisors approved the matter.
The Supervisors next addressed the discussion and consideration of steam trap bids for the County Courthouse heating system repair. Byrnes noted the discussion that took place during the earlier work session with Clark providing a recommendation to accept the bid from Ace Refrigeration of Cedar Rapids in the amount of $72,756 for steam trap and control valve replacements. The Supervisors approved that recommendation.
