The return to the court following the holiday break was a busy one for the Waukon boys basketball team, as the Indians played four games in a span of seven days. That return also saw the end to the bucket Tribe’s undefeated start to this winter’s campaign, as fellow former Northeast Iowa Conference squad Crestwood handed the Indians their first loss of this season in a battle for the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) lead between two teams yet to be beaten in UIC play, a 52-46 Waukon defeat in a Thursday, January 8 road make-up game from a December 9 weather postponement.

Prior to that lone loss for this season, the Tribe had started the year continuing its undefeated streak to seven games with wins of 61-39 over Grand Meadow, MN Saturday, January 3 in an Iowa-Minnesota Border Battle match-up hosted by Luther College in Decorah and a 66-22 win at home over Postville Tuesday, January 6. Following that loss to Crestwood, Waukon bounced back into the win column with a 48-41 victory at Kee Friday, January 9.

The Indians were next scheduled to play at Independence Monday, January 12 before hosting Central Elkader Thursday, January 15 and then playing at Turkey Valley Friday, January 16. The Tribe will then host South Winneshiek Tuesday, January 20 before another back-to-back pair of games to end next week, hosting MFL/MarMac Friday, January 23 before playing Dubuque Wahlert Saturday, January 24 in the Upper Iowa University Shootout played in Fayette.
