The Waukon girls basketball team returned to competition after the start of the new year, playing three games within its first week back on the court and winning just one of those. The Lady Indians started the new year with a 51-38 victory over Grand Meadow, MN Saturday, January 3 in the annual Iowa-Minnesota Border Battle hosted by Luther College in Decorah. They then fell in back-to-back road games in Upper Iowa Conference play, losing at Crestwood by a 38-30 result Thursday, January 8 before suffering a similar fate, 50-46, at Kee Friday, January 9.
The Lady Indians were next scheduled to play at Independence Monday, January 12 before hosting Central Elkader Thursday, January 15 and playing at Class 1A ninth-rated Turkey Valley Friday, January 16. They will then host a pair of Upper Iowa Conference foes, including South Winneshiek Tuesday, January 20 and MFL/MarMac Friday, January 23.
