Allamakee County Treasurer Nicki Smedsrud would like to remind property owners the second installment of property taxes is due by March 31, 2026. Those tax payments can be made in person at the Allamakee County Treasurer’s office in the Allamakee County Courthouse at 110 Allamakee Street in Waukon between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Property owners are reminded to bring their tax stubs with their payment to ensure proper credit. To avoid penalty on the second installment, payment must be received in the Treasurer’s Office by Tuesday, March 31. Penalty will begin to apply April 1.
E-check and credit card payments are also accepted online at www.iowatreasurers.org. Property owners will need their receipt number to pay by e-check, and this can be found on their tax statement.
A drop box is also located in the courthouse’s north parking lot for property owners to drop off their payment. When exiting the parking lot, the box can be found on the left-hand side of that exiting driveway for convenient payment through the driver-side window of a vehicle.
Elderly and Disabled Tax Credit: Homeowners may qualify for additional tax credit if they meet one of the following criteria:
• Are 65 years of age or older as of December 31, 2025, or are totally disabled, and have a total household income below $26,895.00; or
• Are age 70 or older as of December 31, 2025, with income below 250% of the federal poverty level.
Applications for that credit are due Monday, June 1, 2026. For additional information or assistance with that application, contact the Treasurer’s Office at 563-568-3793 or email treas@allamakeecounty.iowa.gov.
Delinquent Tax Publication and Tax Sale: The last day to pay taxes and avoid having name and property listed in the newspaper tax publication is Friday, May 15, 2026. Unpaid taxes will be offered for sale at the Annual Tax Sale to be held Monday, June 15 of this year.
Online Services: Allamakee County residents are encouraged to visit the Treasurer’s website at www.iowatreasurers.org, which allows them access to Treasurer services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Driver’s license appointments may be scheduled through www.iowadot.gov.
