Waukon girls track and field team returns nearly two dozen letterwinners in growing squad for its 2026 spring season

The 2026 Waukon girls track and field season has gotten underway with an initial indoor schedule that has shown some strong promise for what lies ahead for the track and field Tribe, as approximately half of this season’s growing number of 44 overall team members return with letterwinning experience from last season, including experience at the highest level of competition. Guiding that familiarity in competition will be a new face at the helm of the Lady Indian track and field program, but one that is also still very familiar.

Tyler Scholl, who has been an assistant for the Waukon girls track and field program for the past 10 seasons and head coach of the Waukon girls cross country program for the past five seasons, will be taking the reins as head coach of this spring’s campaign as long-time head coach Bob Wasson has retired. Scholl brings with him a lengthy resume of coaching and competition experience in the track and field realm, assets that helped him guide the Waukon girls cross country program to a Class 2A State Meet Runner-Up finish this past fall.

“I’ve been fortunate to have been around the sports of track and cross country the past 20 years,” Coach Scholl shared about what he brings to the head coaching ranks. “I ran competitively in high school and a couple years at the college level for 800m-8km. I helped coach a college track club team, high school boys, and junior high athletes before coming to Waukon. Since coming to Waukon, I’ve been the head coach of our girls cross country program the past five years and coached our mid-distance and distance athletes the past 10 years for our track program. It’s been rewarding to coach multiple conference and district champions in both sports, have about a dozen 4x800, 4x400, and distance medley teams run at the State level, and to help our athletes pursue their goals.”
