Waukon girls track and field team wins New Hampton Invitational

Lady Indians’ 4x100 crew of Schullo, Olson, Berns and Troendle qualifies for Drake Relays

The Waukon girls track and field team ended up having just one meet this past week, but made some recent history at that lone competition. The Lady Indians had their own Early Bird home invitational canceled Tuesday, April 14 due to weather conditions but came back strong in their lone competition of the week to win the New Hampton Invitational, racking up 98 team points behind five event victories that included a 4x100 win in a time that has qualified the Lady Indians for this week’s Drake Relays for the first time in 10 years.

The Lady Indians were next scheduled to compete in the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 21 before taking part in the West Delaware Invitational Thursday, April 23 and also having their 4x100 crew compete at the Drake Relays Saturday morning, April 25 in Des Moines (see shaded box). They will then host their own Indian Relays Tuesday, April 28, with details of that meet printed in a shaded box elsewhere on this week’s Sports pages before their schedule splits the squad between the Crestwood Co-Ed Invitational and the MFL/MarMac Invitational Thursday, April 30.
