The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, May 18 at the Allamakee County Veterans Museum and Genealogy Research Center in Waukon as part of the board’s annual schedule of offsite meeting locations including public libraries within the county. The Supervisors addressed a short agenda of matters including the consideration of contracts and bonds for gravel road rock, the consideration of a detour route for the Memorial Day Parade, and the consideration of the proposed three-year contract with Cost Advisory Services, Inc.

Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark called the meeting to order with Supervisors Dan Byrnes and Dennis Keatley present. The meeting moved into Public Comment with Executive Director Val Reinke with Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) discussing the Wednesday, April 29 tour coordinated by ACED showcasing a variety of recent and ongoing projects relating to housing, business, conservation and utilities in Waukon. This tour was open to representatives and professionals from various entities including state and local government, economic development, education and the business community with over 30 individuals taking part in this tour traveling between the eight locations by bus with others following in their own transportation.

In addition, Reinke noted that the Taste of Lansing event will be taking place this week, Thursday, May 21, in the late afternoon and early evening. She also noted that Waukon’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will be meeting Wednesday, May 20 as part of the kick-off of that process.

With time remaining for Public Comment, Byrnes noted that the Board of Supervisors appreciates the Allamakee County Historical Society making the County Veterans Museum available for today’s meeting.

George Beardmore with the Allamakee County Historical Society discussed the video interview and program featuring U.S. Army Veteran Tom Regan which was available for public viewing at the County Veterans Museum Saturday, May 16 in honor of Armed Forces Day. Beardmore made note of the high level of public interest and turnout for this program. Later in the meeting, between agenda items, Beardmore and Carl Johnson discussed plans relating to an ATV/UTV event with the involvement and participation of disabled military veterans.

Following Public Comment, the Supervisors accepted and placed on file the Quarterly Report from Environmental Health.
