Waukon Middle School honors students with annual Citizenship Awards for 2026

Six Waukon Middle School students were honored Friday, May 21 for their qualities in citizenship observed throughout the school year. This award is voted on by teachers, administration and other staff based on a series of qualities listed below:
• An Unbeatable Attitude: They come to school focused on their goals, enthusiastic about learning, and always respectful of school policies and procedures.
• Dedication to Academics: They understand the value of hard work. While they might not get straight A’s every time, they put in 100% effort to maintain a strong grade point average (GPA) and push themselves to succeed.
• Exceptional Character: They are the students who perform random acts of kindness when no one is watching. They maintain a warm, friendly rapport with peers and teachers, serving as excellent role models for the entire student body.
• Unstoppable School Spirit: From clubs to extracurricular activities, they are always involved and genuinely proud to be a part of Waukon Middle School.
• Community Hearts: They don’t just stop at the school doors; they actively volunteer their time and services to help members of the local community.

Based on these qualities, one boy and one girl from the sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes are given the award. These students can only receive this award once in their middle school career. This year’s recipients (all of whom are pictured in the accompanying photos) included sixth graders Kason Beneke and McKenna Hawes, seventh graders Carter Cook and Teron Curtin, and eighth graders Maren Kurth and Connor Buhl.
