Supervisors approve bid for purchase and installation of new flag pole at County Courthouse, purchase of new patrol vehicle to replace one damaged in recent call

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at the Postville Public Library as part of the board’s annual schedule of offsite meeting locations to include libraries within the county. The Supervisors addressed a full agenda of matters including the discussion and consideration of purchasing a patrol vehicle to include electronic equipment, the consideration of a Temporary Road Closure Resolution for the Bridge Replacement on Bigfoot Road, and the discussion and consideration of a County Courthouse flagpole purchase and installation.
The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark with Supervisors Dan Byrnes and Dennis Keatley present. During Public Comment, Executive Director Val Reinke with Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) provided an update relating to recent and upcoming events within the county.
Reinke made note of the Patriotic Boat Parade held in Harpers Ferry Saturday, June 13, one of several events taking place within the county this year in honor of America250, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Other Saturday, June 13 events noted by Reinke included the Campfire/Cast Iron Cooking Day coordinated by Friends of Yellow River State Forest and the Cheese Curd Festival held at WW Homestead Dairy in Waukon with children’s events coordinated by Kicking Bear Ministry. Reinke discussed the Lansing Liberty Motorcycle Rally held June 11-14 in Lansing in addition to providing an update relating to the Black Hawk Bridge replacement project. Among other specifics, Reinke made note of the Big Four Fair taking place June 19-21 in Postville.
The meeting moved into the consideration of changing the Public Hearing date and time for the Fiscal-Year 2026 (FY26) Allamakee County Budget Amendment from June 22 to June 29. Following discussion, the Supervisors approved to set the new date and time for the Public Hearing as Monday, June 29 at 9:10 a.m.
