A busy week of four consecutive nights of weekday baseball saw the Waukon baseball team win five of six games played Monday through Thursday that included a split result against respective division leaders within the Upper Iowa Conference (UIC). The Indians opened the week handing UIC-undefeated and Class 2A ninth-rated New Hampton its first two league losses of this season Monday, June 15 by scores of 4-0 and 10-3, before the Tribe’s lone home game of the week played out to an 8-1 non-conference win over Anamosa Tuesday, June 16. Another battle against another UIC-undefeated squad came right down to the final play of the game when the Indians lost a 6-5 decision at overall undefeated and Class 1A fifth-rated South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 17. The diamond Tribe also swept a UIC doubleheader at MFL/MarMac Thursday, June 18 by scores of 12-1 and 6-4. The Indians were also scheduled to play at Riceville Saturday, June 20, with coverage details of that contest appearing in a future edition of The Standard.
The Indians were next scheduled to play a varsity reserve/varsity date at Decorah Monday, June 22, and then make up a June 4 home postponement with New Hampton Tuesday, June 23 at 5 p.m. and also host Charles City at 7 p.m. for two different varsity opponents that same night, before also hosting varsity reserve/varsity dates against Postville, Wednesday, June 24, and Crestwood, Thursday, June 25. The diamond Tribe will then play two games at home Monday, June 29 that will include making up a postponed half of a June 8 doubleheader with North Fayette Valley and following that game directly with hosting MFL/MarMac as well. Waukon will then wrap up its current regular season schedule with a Tuesday, June 30 varsity reserve/varsity date at Oelwein.
