The Kee softball team had its Class 1A postseason tournament trail both started and stopped this past week, as the Lady Hawks split a pair of five-inning mercy-rule results to ultimately have their 2026 season brought to a close. Kee’s girls opened Class 1A Region 7 tournament play with an 11-3 win at home over Springville in a regional quarterfinals match-up Wednesday, July 8 before experiencing a reversal of that fortune two days later with a 9-1 defeat at 15th-rated Edgewood-Colesburg Friday, July 10 to bring this summer’s diamond campaign to a halt.
The Lady Hawks brought their 2026 season to a close with a 29-11 overall record, marking the most victories in a season since a 36-6 campaign that was the final of a string of five consecutive seasons with 30 or more wins from the summers of 2014-2018. This season’s overall record included an 18-4 overall Upper Iowa Conference mark that featured an unblemished championship record of 10-0 against this season’s five fellow Small School UIC squads. The lone league losses for the Lady Hawks this summer came to three of the top four teams in the six-team Large School division of this year’s UIC format, including surrendering a doubleheader sweep to North Fayette Valley in this season’s first competition date, and splits with the only two UIC teams to finish with better overall UIC records than the Hawks this summer, the Class 3A schools of Crestwood and New Hampton that both joined the UIC this season and finished with equal UIC records of 20-2 overall.
