Supervisors approve posting of public notices and meeting agendas on east door of County Courthouse, as well as revolving loan fund application at meeting in Waterville

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, July 20 at the Waterville Community Center’s City Council Chambers as part of the board’s schedule of offsite meeting locations that includes public libraries within the county. The Supervisors addressed a full agenda of matters including the consideration of a Revolving Loan Fund application, the consideration of the Resolution designating the location for public notices for open meetings and the consideration of the Resolution of support for a Joint Federal Bridge Grant Agreement and a Letter of Support for a Federal Bridge Grant Project.
The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Pro Tem Dan Byrnes with Supervisor Dennis Keatley present. Chairperson Tom Clark was not present due to a scheduled absence.
During Public Comment, Gary Bottorff of Lansing questioned the Supervisors about the status of the replacement flagpole on the eastern portion of the County Courthouse grounds. Byrnes and Keatley noted that this replacement, made necessary due to storm damage, is anticipated to take place soon with payment made to a contractor last fiscal year.
District Representative Pedro Calderon of Representative Ashley Hinson’s Second District Office in Dubuque advised that he would be making additional stops in Allamakee County yet that same day including New Albin, Lansing and Waukon. Calderon advised that the Supervisors and the public are welcome to reach out to Representative Hinson’s office with questions, comments or concerns relating to federal agencies.
Byrnes commented on the Allamakee County Fair which took place July 15-19. He said that the County Fair was a great event for the entire county in addition to recognizing the work and planning by the County Fair Board. Byrnes also recognized community and business support of the event.
Executive Director Val Reinke of Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) provided a brief recap of the County Fair’s grandstand events including the Rogue Rodeo, a performance by country music icon Tracy Byrd, among other attractions. Reinke discussed the Allamakee Leadership Institute, a new program to include six monthly sessions starting this fall relating to supervisory and leadership topics, which will include employees and management at a variety of levels from different businesses and industries.
