Matthew William Howe

Matthew “Matt” W. Howe, 39, of New Albin passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, August 7, 2026, at Emplify Health in La Crosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 12 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Ben Valentine officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery-Hanover, rural Waukon, with a celebration of Matt’s life to follow at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds.

Friends may greet the family from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 11 at the church, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. scripture service. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.

Matthew “Matt” William Howe was born April 10, 1987, to Mark and Barb (Ferring) Howe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hanover, rural Waukon. Matt graduated from Waukon High School in 2005. He continued his education at Kirkwood Community College, earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Agricultural Production Management in 2007.

His love for agriculture and the life that surrounded it was a meaningful part of who Matt was. In high school, Matt started at Cyclone 1 Swine unit for Dave and Laure Weymiller. Except for the two years he was away at college, he continued his work, totaling 20 years there, ending as the Barn Manager. He was respected and admired by all who worked with him.

October 5, 2024, Matt was united in marriage to his best friend and the love of his life, Tammie Howe. Their marriage was built on love, friendship, family, and the many memories they created together. Tammie was not only his wife, but also his best friend and partner throughout life.

Matt’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his children, granddaughter, family, and friends. He leaves behind his beloved wife Tammie; his children: Miles (Jasmyn), Max, Mason, Lily, Mallory, Madison, and Markus; and his precious granddaughter Brinley. He is also survived by his parents Mark and Barb Howe; his grandmother Karen Ferring; his mother-in-law Beverly Howe; his siblings, Justin Howe and Emily (Jesse) Spors; his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Paul Howe, Danny (Tonia) Howe, Jacob (Carissa) Howe, Cathy (Todd) Waterman, Sarah (Bryce) Peterson, and Valeria (Craig) Pearce; along with many nieces, nephews, other beloved family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Matt was the kind of person who made an impact simply by being himself. He was deeply devoted to the people he loved and would do anything for his family and friends. His generous heart, loyalty, humor, strength, and willingness to help others will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will live on through the people he leaves behind.

Matt had a deep love and dedication to 4-H and FFA through his high school years and then continued on for many years giving his time, knowledge, and encouragement to young people in his community. As a 4-H Sheep Superintendent, he took great pride in helping youth learn not only about raising and showing livestock, but also about responsibility, hard work, confidence, and the importance of giving their best. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, share his knowledge, and cheer on the next generation.

His commitment to 4-H was a true reflection of the kind of person Matt was - someone who believed in others, gave freely of his time, and found joy in helping young people succeed. His impact will continue through the many lives he encouraged and the memories he created with generations of 4-H families.

Matt’s legacy will continue not only through his children and granddaughter, but through every person whose life he touched. In keeping with the generous person that defined who Matt was, his decision to be an organ donor will allow his gift of life to continue, giving hope and a second chance to others in need. His family will find comfort in knowing that a part of Matt will live on in others and that the lives he helps save will carry forward the kindness, love, and generosity that he gave so freely. His family takes comfort in knowing that the love he shared will never be lost - it will continue through his family, his memories, and the lives he will forever change.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmett and Betty Howe and Bill Ferring; his uncles, Kevin Howe and Bob Hager; his cousins, Devin Tielbar and Remington Whalen; his father-in-law Robert Howe; his stepson Macoy; and his nephews, Carter Howe and Tommy Howe.

Matt may no longer be physically present with us, but his love, his laughter, his stories, and the memories he gave his family and friends will remain forever. Rest easy, Matt. You were deeply loved, you will be forever missed, and your memory will live on in all of us.
