The Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH) Board of Trustees has announced Jayne McCormick, the hospital’s current Chief Nursing Officer, will serve as the permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the hospital, effective October 1. McCormick has been with Veterans Memorial Hospital for more than 24 years and has served in many different capacities throughout her career.

“Jayne has spent many years on the leadership team with the hospital and worked her way from a young nurse to become the Chief Nursing Officer. Beyond that, she’s handled CEO responsibilities a number of times when past administrators were out on extended leave,” explains Dennis Lyons, Chairman of the VMH Board of Trustees. “She is qualified to lead the hospital. There is consensus among the Board of Trustees to promote from within when possible and we’ve now accomplished this for the first time in recent history for the CEO position.”

McCormick’s history at the hospital, as well as her family history, goes back many years. She began her hospital career working as a cook in the Nutrition Department while in high school. She then transitioned to a Ward Clerk with the nursing team, working her way through the nursing program at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) in Calmar.

As McCormick received her LPN and later her RN, she continued to move into those roles at the hospital. She later advanced to a charge nurse, to nursing supervisor and to the Maternity Services Supervisor, all roles held in previous years by her mother, Diane Allison, who invested nearly 50 years as a dedicated hospital employee. McCormick was later promoted to Chief Nursing Officer in 2022 and will now serve as the Chief Executive Officer.

“I have worked at VMH since I was 16. I have always loved this facility, the staff and the patients. The community is lucky to have the dedicated and caring staff that walk these halls,” commented McCormick. “Through the years, I have gained not only experience, but lifelong friendships at VMH. I look forward to leading VMH in my new role as CEO.”

As CEO, McCormick will work closely with the Board of Trustees, medical staff, leadership team, and employees as they continue building on their strengths and providing exceptional care to the patients and communities served by Veterans Memorial Hospital.
