Allamakee Community Players, Inc. (ACPI) will present the show “Play On!” by Rick Abbot Friday and Saturday, October 23-24 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. “Play On!” is a hilarious story of a local theatre group trying desperately to put on a play despite maddening interference from the haughty author, who keeps revising the script. Tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance, or may be purchased online in advance at acpitheatre.ludus.com.
When asked what made him choose “Play On!” for this fall’s production, director Jonathan Buhl said, “I saw this show performed in Spring Grove at Ye Olde Opera House, and just fell in love with the story. I wanted to bring this show to our community for others to enjoy. Also, the challenge is the actors have to play two levels at once: the flawed performers in the community theatre and the characters in the deliberately dreadful mystery. If they exaggerate every mistake, the comedy can feel forced; if they react too little, the audience may miss the joke. But we have a strong group of dedicated people that like to have fun and show our patrons a good time. Plus, this show gives the audience a peek into the process of putting on a show.”
