Drug and other charges filed after search warrant execution

Sunday, November 23, the Waukon Police Department, Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol conducted a search warrant at 802 First Avenue NW in Waukon. As a result of the search, 37-year-old Teresa A’hearn has been charged with Class D felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine) third or subsequent offense and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In light of circumstances involved in the November 23 search, 56-year-old Roger Hanson was also charged with Interference with Official Acts as a result of the warrant as well.

Allamakee County Food Shelf adding open hours for holiday months

The Allamakee County Food Shelf in Waukon will add to the hours it will be open during the holiday months of November, December and January. Regular open hours for the Food Shelf of 9 a.m.-1 p.m. will remain in effect, with the facility also being open the additional hours of 3-7 p.m. the following remaining dates: Thursday, December 4; and Thursday, January 8.

Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation's Christmas Fantasy is this weekend

The Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation’s Christmas Fantasy 2014 will be held this coming Friday through Monday, November 14-17 at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon. The theme will be “Let It Be Christmas.”  In addition to the nearly 70 decorated Christmas trees on display, this year's event will again offer many other social and shopping opportunities.

Eighth annual Lighted Holiday Parade scheduled to traverse the streets of Waukon November 24

Plans are being made for the eighth annual Lighted Holiday Parade in downtown Waukon, scheduled for Monday, November 24, beginning at 6 p.m. The event coincides with extended Monday night business hours of Waukon retailers.

The theme for this year’s parade, “Let It Be Christmas,” complements the traditional Christmas Fantasy hosted by Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation each year in Waukon, and will be featured throughout the parade. All entries must be lighted and cannot involve a live version of Santa Claus.

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is promoting the Third Annual Holiday Merchant Madness Punch Card Promotion. The event is held annually to help promote the benefits of shopping locally as the holiday season approaches.

Official trick-or-treat times set for Halloween; Local care facilities offer safe, fun opportunities

The City of Waukon has set its official Trick-or-Treat time for Friday, October 31 from 5-8 p.m. Area residents are asked to leave porch lights on to welcome trick-or-treaters,  and the youngsters are reminded to keep safety in mind while making their rounds from house to house.

Northgate Care Center
Northgate Care Center in Waukon will be offering open house trick-or-treating Halloween evening, Friday, October 31 from 4:30-6 p.m. Northgate Care Center, located at 960 Fourth Street NW in Waukon and owned and operated by ABCM Corporation, has welcomed children for trick-or treating for several years in an effort to offer parents and children a safe alternative to outside trick-or-treating. Residents and staff look forward to seeing the children dressed in their Halloween costumes and sharing the experience.
