There she meets Glinda (played by Bailey Sherman), the Good Witch of the North, who shows her the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, as well as The Wicked Witch of the West (played by Lanie Monk), who would be of no help on her journey.

ISU Extension and Outreach brings “Fizz, Bubble, Goo!” to St. Patrick School ...

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach joined the St. Patrick School Kindergarten class to offer hands-on learning recently. Youth participated in learning about Fizz, Bubble, Goo! The kindergartners learned what makes Alka Seltzer fizz and what gas blows up their balloon when they mix baking soda and vinegar. Another experiment was making elephant toothpaste (as pictured in the photo at right above) and watching the reaction between hydrogen peroxide, yeast and soap. One of the favorite activities of the session is making different slime recipes and seeing which one held together the best and had the most bounce. They made bubbles and bubble blowers, and made their own cola with ingredients right out of the cupboard. The final experiment was watching the volcano of mentos and Diet Coke (as pictured in the photo at left above).

Clover Kids learn about pumpkins ...

Slimy, gooey, disgusting - all words used to describe the inside of a pumpkin when Clover Kids enjoyed a recent pumpkin science-themed meeting and found out just how gooey a pumpkin’s insides are. Some took on the challenge and attempted to count all those seeds inside of a pumpkin. Clover Kids then made thankful pumpkins and wrote three things they were thankful for. They also learned about the parts of a pumpkin and its life cycle. For more information about 4-H and upcoming activities contact the Allamakee County Extension and Outreach Office at 563-568-6345 or http://www.extension.iastate.edu/allamakee/. Submitted photos.
