Obituaries are published in The Standard for a $45 fee and can be brought to the office at 15 First Street NW in Waukon, mailed to PO Box 286, Waukon IA 52172, or e-mailed to news@waukonstandard.com. Photos may be included for an additional charge of $15 (additonal photos are also $15). Obituaries of excessive length (longer than our single-column length of 15.5") will also incur an additional charge of $11/column inch for the content measuring longer than our 15.5-inch column length. James Donithan

A beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend, James Wesley Donithan, 83, of Harpers Ferry, formerly of Elizabethtown, IL, was called to his eternal home to be with the Lord Friday, September 1, 2023.

The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Golden Circle Senior Center in Elizabethtown, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Wesley’s memory to: The Golden Circle Senior Center at R.R. #1, Route 146 East, Elizabethtown, IL. 62931. Kathleen "Kay" Houlihan

Kathleen ‘Kay” A. Houlihan, 80, of Waukon died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s - St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Sevcik officiating, and burial will be at St. Joseph’s Paint Rock Cemetery, both in Harpers Ferry.

Friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church Saturday. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to TASC.

Kathleen “Kay” Ann Houlihan was born June 10, 1943 in La Crosse, WI, the daughter of James and Mary “Bernie” (Alyward) Houlihan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Paint Rock Catholic Church and attended Waterville Elementary School.

Jean Stuckman

Jean A. Stuckman, 76, of Waukon died Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, September 20 at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon.

Jean Ann Stuckman was born March 6, 1947 in Decorah, the daughter of Eldo M. and Cora Marion (Sandbeck) Krumme. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah and graduated from Waukon High School.

June 18, 1972, Jean married Victor A. Stuckman at Glenwood Lutheran Church. They farmed in Ludlow Township before moving to Waukon in 1977.

Judith Selberg

Judith (Judy) Selberg of Waukon passed away September 3, 2023 at the age of 77 in Waterloo due to natural causes. Graveside Service will be held Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at Waterloo Cemetery, located at 1830 Kimball Avenue in Waterloo. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 23 at 12 p.m. at Hope Martin Park on Fletcher Avenue in Waterloo. Memorials can be directed towards the family to be sent in her honor for Alzheimer’s/Dementia research.

She was born August 7, 1946 in Postville to Charles and Gladys (Shafer) Klocke. She graduated from Waukon High School. Judy married Roger Selberg June 29, 1963 in Waukon. Judy was employed by Central High School and later the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon.

Elinor Meyer

Elinor Jeanne Englehorn Meyer left this earth and went to be with the Lord September 3, 2023 at the age of 95. Elinor was born March 21, 1928 in Lansing. She grew up in Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School in 1945. Elinor attended college at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and majored in Music and minored in English. She graduated in 1949.

Elinor married the love of her life, Leo H. Meyer, June 18, 1950. She taught music and English and also worked for Western Farm Management Company drawing maps for their reports. Elinor and Leo spent over 10 years working at the YMCA Camp at Estes Park during the summer and treasured their time up in the mountains.

Ariel Gilbertson

September 10, 2023, Ariel Gilbertson, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date at the home farm.

If you’ve ever met her, you would know where all of us get our love for adventures, love for nature, love for all animals, and you also have to include the sassy, witty attitude and strength. She was the definition of “cool grandma.”

Ariel was born October 22, 1943 in Lansing to Edward and Evelyn (Mulholland) Colsch. She married Peter Gilbertson December 22, 1979. She loved playing euchre, dancing, country music, her special blended family, and her beloved dogs, Bubba and Hobo.

Marie K. Loomis, 89, of Lansing died Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at her home. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, September 16 starting at 3 p.m. at Coffee on the River in Lansing. Lanny Johnson

Lanny Richard Johnson, 71, passed away peacefully September 6, 2023 at his home in Argao, Philippines. A celebration of life will be held in Lanny’s honor at a later date.

Lanny Johnson was born October 4, 1951, the son of Howard and Darlene (Echard) Johnson. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1970.

Lanny worked many different jobs throughout his life from automotive body work, running his own body shop, bus driving, field inspector for Pioneer seed corn, transit driving and some factory work.

Stubborn to a fault, however he always knew what he wanted and pursued things with a passion, whether that was a good deal on antiques, another old car, new car, cars that ran and cars that sat. Lanny was always on the go and loved spending his time exploring new areas, always looking for deals to bring home, gravel traveling and counting deer and other wildlife while on his adventures.

Cindy Peterson

Cindy Lou Peterson, 65, passed Saturday, September 2, 2023 with her family by her side at home in Harpers Ferry on the Mississippi River. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be honoring her Saturday, October 14 at 12 p.m., during the Annular Solar Eclipse. A riverfront reception will immediately follow at the Peterson’s home at 219 South 1st Street in Harpers Ferry. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Cindy Lou Peterson was born June 25, 1958 in Boscobel, WI, the daughter of Helen (Bellis) Ellenbolt and Conrad Bartel; she was later adopted by Larry Ambler. After graduating from Boscobel High School, Cindy attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI, and later received her H&R Block certification.
