Area accidents reported by State Patrol

Accident reports submitted by the Iowa State Patrol indicate a pair of minor two-vehicle accidents within the past two weeks. Neither accident involved injuries.
Friday, September 18 at approximately 7:15 a.m., Mark Benda, age 29, of Waukon reportedly pulled from a driveway at 1095 Highway 9 into the path of a vehicle driven northbound on Highway 9 by Debra Barker, age 48, of Ferryville, WI. The Barker vehicle struck Benda's pick-up on the front passenger side, Benda's vehicle sustaining $4,000 in damage and damage to Barker's vehicle being estimated at $5,000. Benda was charged with Failure to Yield Entering Highway.
Dusty road conditions played a role in a Monday, September 21 accident involving a passenger vehicle and an Allamakee County mower tractor east of Waukon around 2:55 p.m. An Iowa State Patrol report indicates that Robert Oden, age 76, of Waukon was driving his vehicle northbound on Sherman Ridge Road near its intersection with Elon Drive when he attempted to pass a mower tractor owned by Allamakee County and operated by Secondary Roads Department employee Scott Bollman, age 48, of Luana.
Oden's vehicle struck the left rear tire of the tractor, with visibility being greatly reduced by the dust created by the tractor's mowing operations and the dry conditions in the area. There was no damage to the tractor, but Oden's vehicle was estimated to sustain $4,000 in damage.
