Area native operating Calico Clips on west edge of Waukon

Callie Courtney of Waukon opened her own pet grooming business, Calico Clips, in July of this year. In addition to pet grooming, Courtney sews pet clothing and is also a local dealer of Young Living Essential Oils for pets and humans.
Originally from Waterville, the former Callie Foster is a graduate of Waukon Senior High and earned an Associate of Science degree in Dairy Science from Northeast Iowa Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science from Iowa State University. She also earned a certificate from Animal Behavioral College and received over 300 hours of hands-on training at The Groomery in La Crosse, WI.
In addition to all her formal training, Courtney also has a lifetime of experience with her own pets. She currently has a Morky dog named Marty, a calico cat named Macy and horse named Molly.
"I like to be my own boss and love working with animals," Courtney said. "Working the last 15 years on local dairy farms has given me the drive and passion to put my heart and soul in everything I do. Opening my own business lets me do just that, with no limits."
Courtney says that working from her home allows her to offer very flexible hours. She is also available to pick up dogs from their homes and return them to their owners after grooming. She says the most rewarding aspects about running her own business are "working with the great clients and their sweet, adorable pets and helping clients with problems they're having."
"I hope to grow my business enough in the near future to build a place to have a boarding kennel and grooming shop," Courtney said. "I know there is a need for boarding kennels in this area and would love to make it available."
Calico Clips is open beginning at 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday with flexible closing times. To schedule an appointment, call 563-880-3080. Dogs of all sizes are welcome. For more information, check out Calico Clips on Facebook.
