Area officials respond to pair of falls from tree stands on consecutive days

The Allamakee County Sheriff's Department responded to two 9-1-1 calls during the first couple days of this week regarding injuries sustained from falls from tree stands.
The Sheriff's Department reported that Sunday, November 10, a 9-1-1 call was received around noon from Thomas R. Cheney of Edgerton, WI, age 50, who had fallen from a tree stand while trying to remove the stand in the French Creek Public Hunting Area in rural Allamakee County. Cheney was airlifted from the scene to Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, with no report of his condition being made available.
Monday afternoon, November 11, the Sheriff's Department received a 9-1-1 report that a man had fallen from a tree stand in a rural wooded area near Waterville. The 34-year-old victim from Evansdale, whose name has not been released, was transported by ambulance to Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.
Both accidents remain under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
