Athlete of the Week

After only a couple of meets, Vannessa is already having a fine 2005 track and field season. After battling her health during her junior season, this school record holder is looking to end her high school track career on a high note.

The Tribe has been in just two outdoor meets, but Vannessa is racking up points. At an April 4 meet at North Fayette, she had the day’s best leap in the long jump with a personal best 16 foot, 5 inch effort. She also picked up a golden finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.56 and finished second in the 200 in 27.46.

Just a few days later at the April 7 Decorah Viking Invitational, Vannessa swept the sprint events, racing to gold in the 100 in 12.94 and the 200 in 27.25. She capped off the night with a second place finish in the long jump and helped the Indians’ 4x100 relay to a third place finish.
