Casey's employees share holiday gifts with those in service

The employees at Casey's General Store & Pizza in Postville truly demonstrated the joy of giving during the holiday season as they decided rather than buy gifts for one another they would remember area young people who are serving our country in the Iraq.
Manager Katie Kerr-Scheffert said, "We felt we wanted to help the service people who could not celebrate the holidays at home with loved ones. We thought sending them phone cards would brighten up their holidays a little."
The employees contributed nearly $500 to send to the troops. Employee Cindy Schultz purchased the cards and sent them to Iraq in plenty of time before the holiday season. Kerr-Scheffert said, "We have heard from some of the guys and their families who were very appreciative. It was our way of helping just a little and we all have enough already, so buying gifts for one another just didn't seem that important when these people are halfway around the world serving in the armed forces."
The employees, however, did not send all the cards at once; it was suggested that they spread out the distribution so the service people could have additional phone cards after the holidays when they might again need encouragement from home. Katie said, "We saved back about half of the contributions to send later."
