Cut fiber optic line disrupts phone, internet

A cut to a Centurytlink fiber optic line in the Independence area impacted telephone and internet services throughout most of northeast Iowa Monday afternoon and evening, March 31. The cut line impacted a good portion of northeast Iowa, but services had reportedly been restored as of Tuesday morning, April 1.
The impact of the cut varied, depending upon location, as some venues experienced both telephone and internet interruptions, while some had just phone outages. The telephone outages appeared to be mainly for long distance calls between land lines and between cellular phone and land line calls. Reports indicate that local land line calls were not impacted. Allamakee County Emergency Management Director Chris Dahlstrom said 9-1-1 emergency calls were not impacted in Allamakee County, as was the case in some northeast Iowa communities.
