Despite warnings, Waukon Fire Dept. answers five grass fire calls in two days

Despite the urging of using caution when burning during this early spring season, the Waukon Fire Department was still called out to a total of five grass fires within a two-day period this past weekend. The department fielded six total calls within a three-day period, the first being a check for carbon monoxide at 1851 Dug Road Friday, April 1.

Saturday, April 2 is when the grass fire calls began to roll in, two of them happening within minutes of one another and forcing the Waukon volunteers to call on the Postville Fire Department for assistance on the second one at 330 Picnic Woods Road.

Sunday, April 3 resulted in a trio of calls for the local volunteers, all of them for grass fires. A summons to 606 Cedar Lane began the day, with ensuing calls being answered at 1257 Peterson Hollow Road and 1805 O’Neill Ridge Road.
