Effigy Mounds National Monument announces entrance fee rates for 2005

Entrance fees at Effigy Mounds National Monument will remain at $5 per vehicle and $3 per person for the calendar year 2005. The fee is charged during the spring, summer, and fall and covers all park programs, the visitor center film, museum exhibits, and the monument’s hiking trails. There is no fee charged for those ages 16 years or younger. However, beginning January 1, 2006, entrance fees will be charged throughout the national park system for those 16 years old; 15 years and younger will remain free.

Entrance to Effigy Mounds National Monument is free to persons of all ages from Nov. 1 through March 31. Entrance fees to the monument are charged from April 1 through Oct. 31.

Once a fee is charged, visitors are entitled to entrance to the park for seven consecutive days. The vehicle fee reduces costs to visitors arriving in a car occupied by two or more persons. Frequent visitors to Effigy Mounds National Monument can purchase an annual park pass for $10. This pass is good for entrance only at Effigy Mounds National Monument.

Planning a trip to other national parks across the country? Federal Recreation Passes that waive entrance fees at all National Park Service units in the system can be obtained at the Effigy Mounds National Monument visitor center throughout the year. These include the National Park Pass ($50 annually), Golden Age Lifetime Pass ($10 one time charge for citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. that are age 62 or older) and the Golden Access Lifetime Pass (free for citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. that are legally blind or permanently disabled).
