Freshman boys defeat North Fayette, fall to Oelwein, Charles City, Decorah

Waukon's freshman boys basketball squad scored a 57-43 win over North Fayette Dec. 14.
The Indians jumped to a 16-11 lead after the first period and held a 30-21 advantage by halftime. Waukon continued to dominate in the second half, outscoring the Hawks by a 27-22 margin in the third and fourth combined to take their third consecutive win of the season.
Nick Kruger dumped in a team-high 12 points and Colin Egan and Tyler Hanson finished with ten points each. Ryan Anderson added nine.
Kruger reeled in nine rebounds while Egan grabbed six and Marcus Tweedy snagged five.
Logan Anderson led the defense with six steals and Egan grabbed five.

Waukon's win streak was snapped Dec. 17 after Oelwein handed the Tribe a 56-52 loss.
First half action was neck and neck as the squads battled to a 29-28 Husky advantage by halftime. Waukon suffered in the third, getting outscored 10-6 in the frame. The Indians bounced back to outdo the Huskies 12-7 in the final period, but Oelwein held on for the win.
Egan recorded 12 points and five steals for the Indians.
Kruger added nine points and seven rebounds.
Ryan Anderson snagged six boards and Hanson hit the glass for five.

Charles City was up next for Waukon. The Indians were forced to take their second loss of the year Dec. 21 by a narrow 52-49 count.
Momentum was in the Comets' favor in the first as Charles City built a 31-18 advantage after two quarters. In the second half, Waukon outscored the Comets 31-22, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Egan had a solid night with 22 points, five steals, and five rebounds.
Ryan Anderson and Kruger both chipped in 10 points and four boards.

Decorah dropped the Indians' record to 3-3 Jan. 10 after a 57-51 contest.
Kruger, Egan, and Ryan Anderson all finished in double figures, adding 14, 12, and ten points, respectively. Logan Anderson poured in eight.
Egan and Kruger paced the Indians' attack on the boards, each grabbing five rebounds. Ryan Anderson secured four.
Ryan Anderson had five steals and Egan, Jacob Jannsen, and Taylor Wood each recorded three takeaways.
