Lenten Ecumenical Breakfasts to begin Thursday; Gail Hilleshiem to be featured at March 20 event

The first Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon Thursday, March 13. All women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season.
The Lenten breakfast events will begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program. St. Patrick Parish will be hosting the March 13 Women's Lenten Breakfast, with Katie Fahey and Loretta Schafer giving a presentation on the book: "The Energy Bus."

The Thursday, March 20 Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Gail Hilleshiem will present the program with the theme of "Lent: Give Up a Little and Give to a Little One." Hilleshiem is a Special Education Teacher at the Waukon Junior and Senior High Schools and is in charge of the school district's BackPack program that serves eligible students in all of the public schools in the Allamakee Community School District who have filled out an application to participate.
The BackPack program provides kid-friendly, non-perishable food for most in-need students to eat over weekends and breaks when school meals are not available. Those backpacks could include cereal, peanut butter, juice, soup and granola bars, among other items that are labeled and sealed by the manufacturer. All students, which include 120 youth this year, must receive the exact same items in their backpacks.

Those attending the March 20 Lenten Breakfast at St. John's are asked to consider bringing an offering with them to be given in support of the BackPack program.
