LEORA MUNDT

Funeral services for Leora Mundt were held June 14 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia. The Reverend Dave Length officiated. Marlys Hager was the organist. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.
Leora Belle Bloxham Mundt, the daughter of Lee Sumner Bloxham and Sadie Belle (Kelly) Bloxham, was born October 1, 1920, in Franklin Township, near Luana. She passed away June 10, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She had reached the age of 79 years.
Leora attended the Fellowship Township School No. 4, then the Waukon High School, and graduated from the Ossian High School. On September 2, 1938, she was married to Leslie John Mundt by the Reverend William Striepe at the home of her parents. To this union four children were born: Donald, Kelly, Shelby and Craig. They farmed in the Ossian area until 1979, when they moved into their present home in Castalia.
Leora was an active member of the Women of the ELCA at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia since 1938. She held every office of the women’s organization and served on the Church Council as well. She was a member of the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school. She was a charter member of the Bloomfield Township Historical Society and served as secretary of the Greenwood (Centennial) Cemetery Board. In addition, she was a member of the KEWS.
Leora was a true Hawkeye fan as well as an ardent supporter of Iowa teams. She also wrote poetry for her relatives and friends for special occasions. A favorite pastime was to travel around the nearby countryside and to visit many interesting sites along the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Sadie, and her husband, Les, who died in 1991; a great-granddaughter, Marie Charity Davis; her twin sister, Leona, who died shortly after birth; and a brother, Robert Bloxham.
Surviving are her children, Donald (Joyce) Mundt, Danbury, CT, Kelly (Ruth) Mundt, Prairie du Chien, WI, Shelby Mundt, Castalia, and Craig (Linda) Mundt, Ossian; six grandchildren, Deb (John) Jojo, Melrose, NY, Donald (Marjorie) Mundt, Milford, CT, John (Vicki) Mundt, Prairie du Chien, Kristin Mundt and husband, Mike Statz, Portage, WI, Jeromy Mundt, Spokane, WA, and Erica (Paul) Davis, Ossian; and two great-grandchildren, Malana Jojo of Melrose, NY, and Kevin Davis of Ossian.
Also surviving are two sisters, Beulah (William “Bill” Wolfe), Waukon, and Veva June and her husband, Morris Budge, Upper Lake, CA; five sisters-in-law, Viola (Milton) Birdsell, Postville, Ruth (Jim) Kallevang, Cresco, Marvel (Walter) Ode, Lanesboro, MN, Mildred (Vernon) Lofte, Ossian and Elda (Lloyd) Mundt, Grass Pass, OR; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Casketbearers were Lyle Kneeskern, Larry Brockway, Rodney Livingood, Daryl Helgerson, Larry Svendsen and Lowell Corlett.
Honorary casketbearers were The Thursday Club, including Marilyn Breitspacher, Ruby Koenig, Arlene Everman, Delores Timmerman, Betty Monroe, Lorraine Monroe, Gail Frederick and Jeanette Schroeder.
The Schutte Funeral & Cremation service was in charge of arrangements.
