LOVE OF FLOWERS PLANTS BOBBIE'S GREENHOUSE NEAR ROSSVILLE

Bobbie’s Greenhouse, located one quarter mile south of Rossville on Volney Road, opened in April of this year. Owner Bobbie Cunningham, who works full-time as a lab technician at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, says “I have always liked plants. Gardening is my passion. I have never seen a flower I did not like.”
As a result, her husband, Steve, a retired schoolteacher and counselor, built her a greenhouse. “Whatever I want, he builds for me,” she said.
The greenhouse contains a potpourri of floriculture, including bedding plants, hanging baskets, planters, perennials, mums, herbs and dried flowers, along with many varieties of annual flowers. “In the fall, I will have numerous vegetables, including broccoli, cabbage, peppers and tomatoes,” Bobbie said. Next year she is planning on adding strawberries and watermelons.
If you wander through the greenhouse into the back yard area, you will find pheasants and peacocks, along with a variety of chickens. Bobbie sells feathers from the pheasants and peacocks to crafters, while the chickens provide a variety of eggs.
The Cunninghams raise Araucana and Silkie Bantam chickens. The Araucana chicken, discovered in South America, lays a variety of colored eggs, including blue, pink, green and cream. “We had a hen that laid mauve eggs, but she died,” said Bobbie. The colored eggs are very popular around Easter, and also with crafters. Silkie Bantams originated in China. Their feathers give the appearance of down or silky hair, thus the name.
Bobbie’s Greenhouse is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. They may be reached by telephone at (319) 535-7184.
