Maynard Leppert

Maynard W. Leppert, 86, of Waukon, died May 12 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held May 15 at First Baptist Church in Waukon under the direction of Rev. Richard Johnson and Pastor Chris Leppert. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing.
Maynard Wilbur Leppert was born April 9, 1914, on the French Creek Township, Allamakee County, farm of his parents, George and Mattie (Bakewell) Leppert. He attended the rural French Creek School nearby and graduated from Waukon High School in 1932. He and his brother, Reuben, took over operation of the family farm while still in their teens. On Sept. 16, 1944, Maynard married Idamae L. Witt at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI. They lived on the family farm until moving to Waukon in 1973, although Maynard remained active at the farm.
Maynard had four passions in his life. The first was the Lord and he was devoted in witnessing his faith to all he came in contact with. The second was his family and he loved spending time with all of them. He was an especially dedicated caregiver to his wife during an extended illness she suffered. Next was his love of the farm. Throughout his life, he took special care of the land and particularly enjoyed his cattle. Although he moved away from the farm, he remained active in its operation his entire life. Finally, he enjoyed fishing and spent many wonderful times on the river with family and friends.
Maynard is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Idamae; his sister, Dorothy; and his brother, Reuben. Survivors include two sons, Gene (Nancy), Bettendorf, and Duane (Joann), Lansing; one daughter, Suzanne (Brian) Harm, La Crescent, MN; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Luella Bieber of Waukon.
Honorary casketbearers were Janeen Dewispelaere, Jenny Leppert, Stacie Leppert and Molly Leppert. Casketbearers were Marc Harm, Michael Harm, David Harm, Chris Leppert, Shawn Leppert, Roger Leppert, Andrew Leppert, Jim Howard and Mike Botts.
Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family.
