Random drug search conducted at high school, junior high in Waukon

Tuesday, September 15 a police dog supported by the Postville Police Department conducted a random, unannounced search of the Junior High/High School building in Waukon for drugs. The search was conducted through all hallway lockers and students' backpacks or bags in both schools.
School officials report there were no drugs found. “Our priority is to make sure we have a safe, healthy environment so that students can learn," Allamakee Community School District Superintendent Dave Herold explained. "Random drills help to maintain this learning environment.”
Herold explained that the availability of the drug-searching dogs is difficult to expect, and that the team contacted school officials just minutes before team members arrived at the schools. The search lasted approximately one hour.
