Six students from Waukon area awarded scholarships from Buena Vista University

Six Waukon area students have been awarded scholarships from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Those students, and the awards they received, include: Jennifer Brandt, daughter of Dave and Cheryl Brandt of Waukon, Honor Scholarship recipient; Leanne Christensen, daughter of Thomas and Julie Christensen of Lansing, Honor Scholarship recipient; Paul Hansmeier, son of Annette Hansmeier of Waukon, Honor Scholarship and BVU Heritage Scholarship recipient; Heather Herr, daughter of Nora Herr of Waukon, recipient of a President’s Scholarship, a BVU Heritage Scholarship, and a Performance and Production Scholarship; Danielle Johnson, daughter of Rick and Bonnie Johnson of Waukon, a recipient of a President’s Scholarship and a BVU Heritage Scholarship; and Reed Kious, son of Kirk and Linda Kious of Waterville, President’s Scholarship.

Honor Scholarships are awarded to applicants who meet two of the following three criteria: 3.0 composite GPA, ACT score of 20, or top 50 percent of their high school class. Recipients of a BVU Heritage Scholarship must meet two of the following three criteria: 3.0 composite GPA, ACT score of 20, or top 50 percent of their high school class; President’s Scholarship recipients must meet two of the following three criteria: 3.5 composite GPA, ACT score of 23, or top 25 percent of their high school class.

The Performance and Production Scholarship recognizes and rewards students who demonstrate talent and wish to participate in art, theatre, music and/or media studies at the college level. Eligible students agree to participate in at least one performance/production group and/or enroll in at least six hours of fine arts or media studies discipline in the first two college semesters.
