Waukon Affordable Housing Rehabilitation Program looking to assist homeowners with repairs this spring

Spring is, hopefully, just around the corner, so now would be the best time for homeowners to assess any and all structural damage that may have happened during this harsh winter, or perhaps there are projects that have been placed on the back burner over the long winter months. The Affordable Housing Rehabilitation Grant for owner-occupied homeowners in the city of Waukon still has funding available to help with rehabilitation and repairs.
The purpose and goal of this grant money has been to improve the structural integrity of owner-occupied low-income housing in Waukon, thus allowing low-income residents to fix up their homes in order to maintain safe and affordable housing.  The repairs can include structural, roof repair, windows, plumbing or wiring and furnace and heating issues.
Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) of Postville has the responsibility of administering the grant and overseeing the work process. Anyone wishing to learn more about the program or wanting to obtain an application should contact Lori Brockway or Sarah Snitker at UERPC at 563-864-7551 or visit their website at www.uerpc.org.
Applications or information can also be obtained at the Waukon Economic Development office in Waukon through Ardie Kuhse at 563-568-2624. This is an Equal Opportunity Program.
Now is definitely the right time to get those house repair or upgrade projects started so they can be completed in time to allow the freedom to enjoy the summer months ahead.
