Couple exchanges wedding vows

Jennifer Lyn Mathis and Dwayne Adrian Durham exchanged wedding vows Oct. 14, 2000 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. Parents of the bride are Daniel and Kathy Mathis of Waukon. The groom's parents are Dennis and Ilene Durham of Moline, IL.
In special attendance for the ceremony were Leonard and Bernice Thies and Delbert and Ann Mathis, grandparents of the bride, and Margery Buckrop, grandmother of the groom.
The 2 p.m. service was conducted by Rev. Allen Schmitt. Mass was served by Sarah Blocker and Amanda Byrnes. Lector was the bride's aunt, Renee Thies. Her godparents, Cletus and Karen Mathis, acted as offertory gift carriers.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ivory satin, floor-length, A-line gown with a scooped neckline, short sleeves, and beaded Venice lace bodice. Her semi-cathedral train featured a large Venice lace panel. She wore a detachable fingertip veil accented by a crystal and pearl comb. Her bouquet was a nosegay of white alstromeria and champagne roses.
Serving as Maid of Honor was the bride's sister, Sara Mathis of LaCrosse, WI. Matron of Honor was Jane Carney of Centerville. Bridesmaids were Vicky Phipps of Caledonia, MN; Sarah Kastli, Cedar Rapids; and Brenda Ancheta, Rosemount, MN.
The women carried wands of white alstromeria wrapped in ivory satin. They wore amethyst, A-line crepe and chiffon gowns featuring an empire waist, court neckline, princess bodice and short sleeves.
Acting as Best Man was Larry McElderry of Centerville. Groomsmen were Bartt Carney of Centerville; Dale Durham, brother of groom, Florissont, MO; Eric Mathis, brother of bride, Cedar Rapids; and Jason Mays of East Moline, IL.
Ushering attending guests were the bride's cousins, Jim Mathis of Decorah and Chris Thies of Glen Flora, WI. The bride's personal attendants were her sisters, LeAndrea Scott and Kimmie Durham.
In place of flower girls or ringbearers, the bride's cousins, Emma Thies and Liza Thies, acted as pages. The girls rang bells ahead of the guests.
A reception was held at Scenic Ridge View Ranch, Harpers Ferry, immediately following the wedding ceremony. Hosting the event were the bride's godparents, Cletus and Karen Mathis.
Alexandra Thies and Andrew Thies, cousins of bride, attended to the gifts. Managing the guest book at the church was Julie Durham; it was further attended at the reception by Meg Welch and Amy Schulte, Glen and Eloise Reed, aunt and uncle of the bride, and Kim Reed and Kristy Reed, cousins of bride. Punch server was Stephanie Thies, cousin of bride; June Cota poured coffee. Cutting the cake were Barb Thies, aunt of bride, and Amy Byrnes, cousin of bride. Her aunts, Marilyn Thies and Deb Thies, managed the flowers. The bride's committee consisted of Annalie Thies and Kelly Thies.
The bride is a graduate of Waukon High School. She earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1993 from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She then completed a master of arts in education in May, 2000. She is employed as a first grade teacher for the Centerville Community School District. The groom is a graduate of Moline High School and is currently employed at the Centerville Body Shop.
The couple has made their home in Centerville.
