USDA Provides One-Time Extension of Deadline to Update Base Acres or Yield History for ARC/PLC
The final day to update yield history or reallocate base acres has been extended one additional month, from February 27 until March 31. The final day for farm owners and producers to choose ARC or PLC coverage also remains March 31.
If no changes are made to yield history or base acres by March 31, 2015, the farm’s current yield and base will be used. A program choice of ARC or PLC coverage also must be made by March 31 or there will be no 2014 payments for the farm and the farm will default to PLC coverage through the 2018 crop year.

Colbey and Craig Decker of Oxford, OH announce the birth of their son, Noah Vincent Decker, January 2, 2015 in Oxford, OH. He weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz. and measured 18-1/2 inches in length at the time of his birth. He joins a brother, Milan (3).
Grandparents are Craig and Amy Wiemerslage of New Albin, Janelle Wiemerslage and Randy Peterson of DeSoto, WI and Gayle and Carol Decker of Waukon. Great-grandfather is Vincent Haas of Waukon.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey recently announced that farmers participating in the state cost share programs that are intending to plant cover crops have until November 1, 2014 to get the cover crops planted and still qualify for assistance.
This extension is only available for winter-hardy, small grains that are likely to establish yet this fall, specifically winter rye, winter triticale and winter wheat. Other species such as oats, radishes, turnips and legumes are not likely to provide the desired growth to be effective this late in the season. There are an estimated 108,000 acres of cover crops supported by state cost share programs.
