Charles I. Deering, 80, of Postville died Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville with the Rev. Lynn J. Noel as the Officiant. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 2 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and an hour before services at the church Friday.

Charles was born May 16, 1936 to Irving Charles and Leeone (Zieman) Deering on the home farm in rural Postville, where he resided for 65 years. He was baptized July 19, 1936 by Rev. R.B. Garten and confirmed April 2, 1950 by Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig.

Charles graduated from Postville High School in 1954, attended Iowa State University and then returned to the family farm. June 16, 1957 he was united in marriage to Carol Meyer at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Charles E. Witt. To this union six children were born.

Darlys Crees, 61, of Lansing, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. She suffered from a ruptured brain aneurysm early Thursday morning, January 19 and did not recover. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with Father Mike McLaughlin officiating the service.

Darlys Marie Crees was born April 8, 1955, the daughter of Wendell and Edna Richardson. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, teacher and friend.

Willis Werner Johanningmeier, 95, of Monona died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Great River Care Center, McGregor. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20 from 4-7 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona and one hour before services at the church Friday.

Erik W. Nykkanen, 69, of Waukon died Friday, September 2, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Madison, WI. Memorial services and military honors will be held Friday, September 9 at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Steve Oden officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

On July 14, 2016, FCC will be voting on whether to move forward with 5G. This proposal is called the Spectrum Frontiers Proceedings. If they do this, many more stronger antennas and transmitters will be put on power and light poles across the US. The cesspool of man-made radiation in our environment will greatly intensify. This must be stopped.

Scientists have proven that wireless radiation is a carcinogen and greatly damages biological life. They have proven that wireless damages mitochondrial DNA and is irreparable, which will be passed on and further damage to all future generations.

Despite an overcast day mixed with an occasional sprinkle of rain, Irish pride was still shining brightly during the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade held Sunday, March 13 in Waukon. As evident in the photo, the looming weather conditions didn’t keep parade-goers from lining the streets of downtown Waukon to view well over 100 entries that took part in this year’s parade. In spite of famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil not seeing his shadow and indicating an early arrival for spring, his day in the limelight, Tuesday, February 2 - Groundhog Day, provided little evidence of that happening as a snowstorm gripped northeast Iowa and dumped anywhere from eight to 10 inches of snow in Allamakee County. Snow falling at the rate of nearly two inches per hour at times during that Tuesday morning (as evident in the above photo) forced cancellation of area schools, closing of area businesses and the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol to issue warnings of no travel advised as five to six inches fell during the daytime hours. Another three to four inches followed overnight that Tuesday night, again forcing cancellation of schools for Wednesday, February 3.

October 1, 2015 – December 15: Forage (alfalfa), pasture, grass, and fall seed crops certification are required to be certified by December 15, 2015 for spring 2016 crop year. Late file fee will apply and no waivers will be granted. The late file fee will be $46 per farm.
