April is Donate Life Month; A plea to register from an organ recipient

Register to be an organ donor ...
Register to be an organ donor ... April is Donate Life Month and serves as a reminder to the public to register to be an organ and tissue donor. Bev Larson-Needham of Waukon is here today thanks to an organ donor. She is pictured by her license plate which publicly thanks everyone who has registered to become a donor. She states, “If you have already decided to be a donor, thank you. If you are considering becoming a donor, I encourage you to do so. It will be a difference of life or death - it was for me!” Submitted photo.

April is Donate Life Month and serves as a reminder to the public to register to be an organ and tissue donor. Seventeen people in the United States die each day waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.  One donor can save the lives of up to eight people through organ donation and heal and enhance the lives of more than 300 through tissue and eye donation.

Bev Larson-Needham of Waukon is here today thanks to an organ donor. She received both the liver and kidney of the same donor, and five years later, she is living a normal, healthy life with no side effects. She encourages everyone to register to be not only an organ donor upon death, but also a living organ donor.

Custom Farm Rate Survey results released for Iowa

Table 1. Average farm custom rates reported for Iowa ...
Table 1. Average farm custom rates reported for Iowa ...

Many Iowa farmers hire some custom machine work in their farm business or perform custom work for others. Others rent machinery or perform other services.

In order to help producers and custom operators examine the market, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach publishes the Iowa Farm Custom Rate Survey.

This year’s survey, published in March, includes 94 responses and 2,621 custom rates for tasks related to tillage, planting and seeding, spraying, harvesting, farm labor and more. Additions to the survey for 2023 include ground (broadcast) spraying with a self-propelled, tall-crop sprayer and liquid fertilizer high clearance application with drop hose and Y spray nozzle.

Letter to the Editor: Submitted by Osmund “Ozzie” Quandahl

To the Editor:

First, I have to say, I am a big Trump supporter. His four years as President were tremendous.

No President has ever accomplished more good things for the USA than Trump. A man came up to me and said, “I’ve been a lifelong Democrat, I voted for Trump, and I believe he is a God send.”

I’ve seen many surveys that show 60% of Democrats would not vote for Biden again and wish they had not voted for him. Question: What kind of person would vote for what we have now, a country on the brink of disaster?

Putin has destroyed Russia and Biden has destroyed the USA. I call Putin a war criminal. Question: What should we call Biden, a super destroyer? By the end of Biden’s term, you will not recognize our country, it will be a third world situation.

Kindest Regards & God Bless,
Osmund “Ozzie” Quandahl
