by Julie Berg-Raymond

The Lansing Police Department is initiating a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program at the Lansing Middle School, beginning in Fall 2022.

“It’s not just for drugs, it also covers vaping and teen suicide,” City of Lansing Chief of Police Conrad Rosendahl said during an informational presentation before the Lansing City Council at its regular meeting Monday, March 7. “If we can save one life then we’ve done something, in my opinion.”

He said another benefit of the program is that it involves “positive interaction with law enforcement.” The only cost to the police department would be for the 80 hours of training for certification, he said.

Kee girls basketball team plays to 7-15 season record as one of greatest careers in program history comes to a close

The 2021-2022 Kee girls basketball team played to a 7-15 season record, posting its lowest win total in over 10 years when the Lady Hawks recorded a 7-14 season mark during the 2010-2011 campaign. This year’s 7-15 overall mark included a 5-11 result in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play that placed the Kee girls in a tie for fifth place in the final UIC standings with a South Winneshiek squad the Lady Hawks split two games with during the regular season.

Despite having just nine players on this season’s roster - only six of whom were not playing in their first year of high school basketball, the Kee girls had several of their losses this season come by just single digits to teams from larger schools and that finished ahead of them in the final UIC team standings.
