John Zweibahmer

John Ralph Zweibahmer, born July 28, 1968, died at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI October 22, 2021 from complications due to COVID. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, October 30 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian with Rev. Robert Gross as the celebrant. Burial followed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian. The Mass was livestreamed at facebook.com/cfosparishes.

Karl and Jean (Holtey) Zweibahmer’s “Little Johnny” grew up on a farm outside of Ossian and went to DeSales Catholic School through the eighth grade. He then graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1986.

Elizabeth “Lee Ann” Cooper

Elizabeth Ann “Lee Ann” Cooper, age 75, of Middleton, WI passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital. At Lee Ann’s request, no services will be held.

Lee Ann was born October 5, 1946 in Sparta, WI, the daughter of Leo and Milli (Gerkey) Stirn. Lee Ann grew up in Lansing and graduated from St. George High School in 1964. She graduated from St. Mary’s Xray School in Madison, WI. Lee Ann married Leo Cooper III June 8, 1968 in Lansing. She worked as a Xray Technician for Stiennon Radiology.

Lee Ann enjoyed community theatre, singing and performing for the CTM and Strollers for 46 years. She was a founding member of Strollers Theatre from 1965 until her retirement in 2011, and a founding member of the Bartell Theatre in downtown Madison, WI where she served as managing director for 10 years. Lee Ann was also a lifelong member of the Democratic Party.

Thomas Schofield

Thomas M. Schofield, 80, of New Albin died Tuesday, October 26, 2021 in Columbia, MO while on vacation. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. Sean Smith officiating. Burial of ashes will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon.

Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Thomas Michael Schofield was born July 15, 1941 in Waukon, the son of Michael and Cecilia (Sweeney) Schofield. As a child, Tom and his family lived in Monona, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church and graduated from MFL High School in 1959.

Tom married Joyce Olson in 1962 at St. Patrick Church in Monona. They had three daughters together and later divorced. July 26, 1986, Tom married Mary Jo Campbell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They resided in New Albin.

Ruth Belich

Ruth Agnes (Richie) Belich, age 93, passed away October 15, 2021 at Thornton Manor Nursing Home in Lansing. Per Ruth’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private inurnment will be held at a later date at Good Hope Cemetery, Greenfield, WI.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Steve; her parents, Leland W. “Dutch” and Frances K. (Cooper) Richie; and her brother, Leland G. (Juanita) Richie.

Ruth was born September 8, 1928 in Lansing and graduated in 1946 from Lansing Public High School. She went on to attend Wesleyan College, Mount Pleasant and graduated with her teachers degree in Physical Education. While at Wesleyan, Ruth participated in the basketball program and became a starting forward and the team captain. She achieved “Honorable Mention” for the National Athletic Union American Basketball Team category and was selected to First Team for the Collegiate American Athletic Union All-State Basketball Team for the State of Iowa.

40th wedding anniversary for Mark and Barbara Howe

Mark and Barbara (Ferring) Howe of Waukon will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple exchanged vows November 7, 1981 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon.

Their children include Justin (Ami) Howe of Oxford, Matt Howe of New Albin and Emily (Jesse) Spors of Marion. They have 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In honor of the occasion, cards and well wishes may be sent to 388 Red Bud Drive, Waukon, IA 52172. No gifts are requested.

Norbert Palmer celebrates 90th birthday ...

Norbert Palmer of Waukon was celebrated July 18 by his family and friends with a 90th birthday party lunch. His entire immediate family was there, as well as many relatives, neighbors and long-time friends, some who came from afar for the party. Norbert was born on Big Foot Road July 18, 1931, and grew up farming with his parents, Emmett and Evelyn Palmer, and then farmed with his wife of 59 years, Nola (nee Enyart). Terry Kolsrud and Shawna Peterson, both of Waukon, announce their engagement and upcoming wedding to take place Saturday, November 6, 2021. A private ceremony with family is planned with a dance open to the public to follow from 6-10 p.m. at The Barn in Prairie du Chien, WI.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Al Peterson and Sara Ghan, both of Lansing. The groom-elect is the son of Bernard and the late Lorna Kolsrud of Waukon.
