First Street SE front entrance to Good Samaritan Society to be closed for remodeling

Good Samaritan Society Waukon would like to alert all family members and visitors that starting in the middle of September construction work will begin that will impact the facility’s front entrance located on First Street SE. That front entrance will not be available for use for approximately eight weeks, but the other door located just down from the front entrance on First Street SE will still be able to be used until 7 p.m. each day by utilizing the appropriate code.

Any other door into the facility will be locked at 5 p.m., so it is encouraged that anyone coming to visit after 7 p.m. should call 563-568-3447 so a staff member can open the door. That number can also be called to have any further questions answered.

Her artwork (pictured below) has been printed as one of the 12 pages for the Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar, being displayed for the month of December. Update provided on Splash Pad project in Lansing

As part of its appreciation to thank the 100-plus contributions made to the Big Splash Project, the Lansing Park and Recreation Board reports that the donor recognition sign for the project is being created and will be sent to the manufacturer in the next couple weeks. Anyone who is still contemplating making a contribution to the project should send it to the City of Lansing, P.O. Box 470, Lansing, IA 52151 with the words “Splash Pad” in the memo section.

The splash pad equipment has arrived and the majority of the plumbing is complete for the project. Once the concrete is poured and a shelter for the controller and manifold is completed, the equipment will be installed. Park and Recreation Board officials know the season is getting late, so they have planned a ribbon cutting ceremony to take place next year when the weather begins to warm up.

Waukon football team rallies in final minutes, holds off final charge for 26-21 triumph in Class 2A top-10 battle at Crestwood

Touted as high as a #1 vs. #3 match-up by some polls, the Class 2A top-rated Waukon football team’s Friday, September 6 non-district match-up at fellow top-10 and fellow Northeast Iowa Conference squad Crestwood proved to live up to all that hype, coming down to the final minutes and final plays before a winner was decided. Although the Indians had built a 20-7 lead by halftime, they had to recover from a third quarter Cadet uprising and then fight off another threat in the game’s closing seconds to secure the 26-21 triumph.

“I was pleased the kids continued to play hard, even when things were not going our way,” Waukon football coach Chad Beermann said. “It shows we have the talent to do great things, once we get out of our own way with fumbles, penalties and mistakes.”
