Athlete of the Week

Early in the 2005 track season, Kyle is asserting himself as a hurdling presence not only in northeast Iowa, but across the state. The senior focuses his talents on the high hurdles events, winning the 110-meter event in 15.26 last Thursday during the Tribe’s first outdoor meet of the season. During the Indians’ indoor schedule, Kyle also proven he’s among the best, taking second in the 55-meter highs at the Northeast Iowa Conference indoor meet and finishing fifth and eighth, respectively, at the Iowa State and Dickinson meets while competing against athletes from across the entire state. Kyle already holds the school record in the high hurdles (14.6) and hopes to qualify for a spot in the event at the upcoming Drake Relays.

Hurdling isn’t Kyle’s only strength. He’s also enjoyed high jump success, winning at the conference indoor event before finishing second at the Waukon Early Bird. Kyle’s regularly clearing 5’8”, a nice mark early in the year. He also helped the medley relay team to a second place standing last Thursday and has been a regular competitor on the Tribe’s 4x200 relay squad.
