Remember to secure proper building permits prior to projects
As the spring building season comes around, all carpenters, concrete and excavation personnel, and homeowners are reminded to have all of the necessary building permits secured for any projects they may be undertaking. In addition, a reminder is also issued to contact local locating services for underground wires and pipes. Failure to secure proper building permits can lead to fines.
Most every town and county in this tri-state area will have permit and setback requirements. It is the responsibility of those undertaking the projects to make sure all permits are obtained prior to the start of any type of construction project.
For rural Allamakee County, contact County Planning and Zoning Director Laurie Moody on the first floor of the Allamakee County Courthouse at 568-3014. Elsewhere, the respective county or city zoning departments or city clerk’s offices should be contacted prior to beginning construction.
