Vivian Selberg

Vivian Selberg, 92, of Waukon, died Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday, February 14 at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating. Graveside committal service were held in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.
Vivian Berniece Selberg was born August 30, 1912, in Monona, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Berniece (Rupp) Kurth. She was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Monona, and attended Monona Elementary and Waukon High Schools.
On May 29, 1930, she married Walter H. Selberg in New Sharon, Iowa. Together they farmed for many years in Ludlow Township with Vivian helping with many of the chores and handling the financial matters. In later years she continued living on the farm and worked in the laundry department at Makee Manor, and as a sales clerk at Our Own Hardware and Butler Variety Stores, both in Waukon. She had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon since 1997.
Vivian was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ where she served on Mission Committee, sang in the choir, and held numerous offices in the Women's Fellowship. She was also a former member of Farm Bureau. Vivian had a very outgoing personality and enjoyed dancing, gardening, and socializing with her neighbors through a card club and various get togethers. She also enjoyed traveling and took several trips with Walter for fishing in Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as spending every Holy Week visiting Keith and Pat. She was an expert on family history, knowing individuals and stories from several generations, and loved to go to reunions. For quite some time she had also been a faithful visitor to her friends in the local nursing homes.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. Keith (Pat) Selberg of Waukon and Curtis (Jan) Selberg of Decorah; five grandchildren, Brad Selberg of Waukon, Scott (Laurie) Selberg of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Lisa) Selberg of LaCrescent, Minn., Shane (Tracey) Selberg of New York City, and Mickie (Bob) Engrav of Rosenberg, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter who died in 1973; an infant son Ronald; and a grandson Mark Curtis.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Salem United Church of Christ or the Waukon Good Samaritan Center.
