Letter to the Standard's Editor

To the Editor:
SHARE Iowa is a wonderful program and I want to tell all of you about it. SHARE allows you to get to know your fellow community members while helping and sharing in a food co-op.
SHARE helps you stretch your food dollars. By volunteering two hours a month through your local church, helping out your neighbor, or even attending a PTA meeting, you can take advantage of the wonderful savings each month.
A participant informed me that with the two hours of volunteer service she performed last month she was able to save over fifty dollars off her monthly grocery expense. This allowed her to enjoy an evening with her two kids at the movie theater, which they normally would not have done if it was not for SHARE.
At the same time she also was given the opportunity to meet other members of her community during distribution day and has developed friendships with them. She has also helped her friend save money by offering her time to watch her kids while she had a doctor's appointment, this counted as her two hours of volunteer service.
By doing two hours of volunteer service, her life was enriched three times. She has saved money, help a friend in need and gained friends within her own community. If you are looking to stretch your food dollars and enrich your lives you too can be a participant in SHARE.
SHARE has no income guidelines and is open to everyone. The only requirement is that you perform two hours of volunteer service a month.
If you are interested you can call the SHARE office at 800-344-1107 or visit the website at www.shareiowa.com. We would be more than happy to send you more information on how to sign up, or you can schedule a presentation for your group, school or church. If your community does not have a SHARE site, we will be willing to work with you and help your community set one up.
