The wins keep coming for the Kee baseball team, as the Hawks swept through six more contests this past week to improve their current win streak to 20 games and their season record to 31-2 overall, including a still unbeaten, 16-0 mark in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play that has Kee locked in as this season’s UIC champion - the Hawks’ first sole UIC title since 2017 - heading into the final week of the regular season. This season’s conference crown received a big boost with Kee’s sweep of the only team that could have derailed the Hawks’ UIC title hopes, South Winneshiek, in a Monday, June 20 doubleheader, 10-4 and 12-2 in five innings, before single-game wins at Postville, 16-1 in four innings, Tuesday, June 21 and at Clayton Ridge Thursday, June 23 by a 12-3 result. Kee’s toughest tests of the week came at the Waterloo Bucks Tournament Saturday, June 25, where the Hawks first downed Woodbury Central, 8-5, before winning the tournament title on the last play of the game, 4-3, over Waterloo Columbus.
The Hawks were next scheduled to play a varsity doubleheader at North Fayette Valley Monday, June 27 before playing Wapsie Valley Tuesday, June 28 at Luther College in Decorah. The Kee boys will then open postseason tournament play, receiving a first-round bye before hosting their Class 1A District Tournament semifinals game Tuesday, July 5 against either Dunkerton or East Buchanan, with further details of that postseason trail printed in the June 29, 2022 print edition and e-edition Sports pages.
