Supervisors approve resolution for destruction of noxious weeds and low bid for concrete pavement patching among other matters at brief regular session

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, July 7 to address a full agenda of matters including the approval of the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Appropriations Resolution, the consideration of the Resolution for the Destruction of Noxious Weeds, and consideration of the resignation of a jailer/dispatcher. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Dan Byrnes with Supervisors Dennis Keatley and Tom Clark present.

During Public Comment, Byrnes noted that the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk held Saturday, July 5 in Harpers Ferry had 247 participants with the Harpers Ferry Boosters and volunteers deserving recognition for this well-run event and the high level of public participation. Clark and Byrnes both made note of the busy weekend in Harpers Ferry.

Zoning Administrator Stephanie Runkle discussed an upcoming meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 10 relating to the Solar Ordinance and that three zoning changes will be addressed at the next Planning and Zoning meeting.

Following the time allotted for Public Comment, the meeting moved into the consideration of the Fiscal-Year 2026 (FY26) Appropriation Resolution. County Auditor Denise Beyer noted that the three signatures of the Supervisors would be required for the resolution relating to budget appropriations for departments. Following review, the Supervisors approved the FY26 Appropriations Resolution.

The meeting moved into the consideration of the Certificate of Adjustment/Abatement of Taxes. Beyer provided an overview of the adjustment and abatement necessary for Norplex in Postville relating to a tax difference of $11,184 following the result of an appeal relating to the company’s property valuation. The tax adjustment and abatement were approved for Fiscal-Year 2024/2025 (FY24/25) and Fiscal-Year 2025-2026 (FY25/26).
