Sharon Costello
Sharon Ann Costello, 81, of Lansing passed away suddenly at her home September 20, 2026. Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 25 and again from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. A funeral dinner and celebration of Sharon’s life will follow. All are welcome.
Sharon married her soulmate, John “Twinny” Costello, November 21, 1964. Together they raised four children: Sue (Keith) Meyer of Eitzen, MN, John (Kayla) Costello of Lansing, Michelle (Joe Gillitzer) Kishman of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Tom Costello of Lansing. John and Sharon lived in Chicago, IL for five years before moving to Lansing in 1969.
Sharon worked as a supervisor at Thornton Manor Nursing Home for more than 30 years. She was active in the Women’s Auxiliary and her church and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Sharon loved Tuesday night Bingo, playing bridge with her girlfriends, and never missed an opportunity to visit the casino. She and her friends called those trips “dress shopping” so no one knew where they were really going. Her friends might tell you the casino was rigged, because Sharon certainly did her fair share of winning!
Sharon was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, and the glue that held her family together. She absolutely adored her 13 grandchildren, who may especially remember being recruited as toddlers to rub cucumber melon lotion on Grandma’s feet - a memory they will either cherish forever or someday seek counseling for!
She was blessed with 23 great-grandchildren, and another on the way whom she was so excited to welcome. Nothing made Sharon happier than visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sharon was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and, in recent years, rarely missed watching Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. She had a wonderful sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to laugh and have fun. Her kindness, humor, generosity, and devotion to family and friends will be remembered forever.
Sharon is survived by her four children; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six siblings: Joe (Rita) Zeimet, Sue (Dave) Richards, Sandy Rethwisch, Sally (Mark “Soup”) Rethwisch, Jake Zeimet, and Jerry (Kim) Zeimet; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney and Dorothy Zeimet; her beloved husband, John B. “Twinny” Costello; and other cherished family members.
