Home ›Late-game surge allows Kee football team to take further control of its postseason destiny with 40-14 home triumph over Springville
After putting up 80 points in each of its last two ballgames, the Kee football team only got halfway to that total in its Friday, October 2 home game against Springville but still got all the way to the win column in securing a 40-14 win over the visiting Orioles. A rain-soaked field provided its own challenges for the Hawk offense ranked within the top five in scoring in the entire state of Iowa, but Kee’s grid squad was still able to rack up more than 350 yards of offense and outscore Springville, 22-0, over the game’s final 15 minutes, under the toughest field conditions of the night, to come away with that 40-14 triumph that keeps the Hawks among Eight-Player District 4’s leading teams and locks them into play-off qualification.
“With the tough field conditions, it limited what both teams could do,” Kee football head coach Chad Winters shared. “We had a couple opportunities to get stops on both of their touchdown scoring drives but weren’t able to get off the field on fourth down on both of them. When we have those chances we need to get stops.”
The Hawks are next scheduled to hit the road for both their final road game of the regular season and their final District 4 match-up as well when they travel to Central City this Friday, October 9. Both teams have just a single loss in District 4 play heading into Friday’s contest, with each of those losses coming to yet-undefeated Edgewood-Colesburg - a 63-0 home loss for Central City while Kee lost by just a 71-42 result for its only defeat of the season, while the Wildcats also fell to WACO, 34-12, to begin this season.
