Ribbon cutting at Road Runner Coffee in New Albin ...

Roadrunner Coffee is a small, seasonal coffee stand that also serves espresso and Lotus Energy drinks, located at 224 Railroad Avenue SW in New Albin and owned and operated by Jess and Brennan Welsh of New Albin. The new business celebrated with a ribbon-cutting held Monday, September 21 following the regular weekly meeting of the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors at the New Albin Public Library.

Pictured above at that ribbon-cutting event are: Left to right - Front row: Allamakee County Board of Supervisors member Dennis Keatley, Road Runner Coffee employee Rylee Mudderman, Road Runner Coffee owners Jess and Brennan Welsh, Road Runner Coffee employee Morgan Mohn, Shelly Galema of New Albin Savings Bank, and New Albin City Clerk Debra Stantic. Back row: Allamakee County Board of Supervisors candidate Jim Pladsen, New Albin Mayor Tom Feuerhelm, Allamakee County Board of Supervisors Chairperson Tom Clark, New Albin resident Lenny Mellick, Allamakee County Economic Development and Tourism Executive Director Val Reinke, Allamakee County Auditor Denise Beyer, Allamakee County Deputy Auditor Janel Eglseder, New Albin City Council member George Blair, Allamakee County Board of Supervisors member Dan Byrnes, and Betsy Whitlatch of New Albin Savings Bank.

Jess and Brennan Welsh opened Roadrunner Coffee June 20 of this year. Jess describes her desire for great coffee without the commute, and the Welshes bought a small trailer online and took a road trip to Owatonna, MN on their wedding anniversary to pick up the home of their new venture. Jess trained her staff, and they conducted a bit of research and development as they concocted their brews to be served. The business has already increased its staff from three to seven in the first several months of business. Brennan created the kiosk color scheme with the goal of drawing traffic along the busy State Highway 26 through New Albin. Road Runner Coffee hours of operation are currently Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6-11 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Photo and write-up submitted by Allamakee County Economic Development.
